Immerse yourself in a unique, multi-sensorial experience at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with “A Meal,” a live performance that marries art and dining in an explorative celebration of our connections with food. Crafted by acclaimed artists Ximena Garnica and Shige Moriya, this event takes you through a journey of food origins, preparation, and communal eating, all set within the atmospheric grounds of HERE’s building. The performance includes a series of vignettes featuring mythological creatures and multimedia installations, using handmade organic tableware and artifacts that highlight the creators’ Japanese and Colombian heritages.

Join the LEIMAY Ensemble and an array of guest performers and composers for a three-hour immersive exploration that blurs the line between observer and participant. Whether you’re indulging in a meal of culturally diverse dishes, from arepas and aburi sushi to hot pot and hand-rolled tamales, or interacting with the various performances, “A Meal” promises a memorable journey that celebrates food, culture, and community. This unique event not only satiates the palate but also the soul, encouraging a deeper appreciation of the culinary arts and the rituals that surround them.
